Permit Works helps Brampton homeowners, landlords, contractors and businesses coordinate permit drawings, property-specific zoning review and online submissions through the Brampton Building and Business Portal.
The City of Brampton Building Division accepts building permit applications through the Brampton Building and Business Portal. The portal supports online applications, document uploads, requests for additional information, status tracking and other permit tasks.
Published submission guidance calls for application forms, drawings and applicable supporting documents suited to the project. Residential and industrial, commercial or institutional work have different packages and checklists, so the submission should follow the relevant City material.
Permit Works can review the proposed work, prepare architectural drawings, coordinate consultant documents and organize the portal submission. If staff request information during pre-review or plans examination, we can revise our work and help assemble the response.
Brampton’s current official zoning information states that Zoning By-law 270-2004, as amended, and Council-approved Comprehensive Zoning By-law 14-2026 may presently need to be reviewed, with the most restrictive applicable provisions prevailing. By-law 14-2026 remains under appeal.
The result must be assessed for the specific property. Mapping, schedules, excluded areas, transition provisions, site-specific amendments and existing approvals can affect which rules govern. Zoning may regulate use, setbacks, height, lot coverage, parking, additions, decks and accessory structures.
A non-compliant proposal may require redesign or an appropriate planning or zoning process. The page should not be used to decide which by-law or relief applies to an address without current property-specific confirmation.

Permit Works assists across Bramalea, Downtown Brampton, Mount Pleasant, Castlemore, Heart Lake, Springbrook and surrounding areas. Mature neighbourhoods, newer subdivisions, employment lands and mixed-use areas may be affected by different zoning provisions and existing approvals.
Some properties may also involve a site-specific amendment, heritage consideration, grading or tree requirements, conservation authority review or an excluded area under the newer zoning framework. The exact address and intended use should guide the review.
Additions, structural alterations, basement entrances, additional residential units, plumbing work, commercial renovations, demolitions and changes of use commonly require permit review. The required application package depends on the project category.
Work that does not require a building permit may still need to comply with zoning or another municipal requirement. Confirm the full scope before construction starts.
Applications are made through the Brampton Building and Business Portal. Applicants complete the online submission and upload the forms, drawings and supporting documents identified for the applicable residential or ICI project type.
The portal can also be used to provide additional information requested during pre-review or plans examination. Application content should remain coordinated through each response.
Depending on the work, the package may include a legal survey or site plan, existing and proposed floor plans, elevations, sections, architectural details and applicable-law documentation. Structural, plumbing, HVAC, grading or other consultant information may also be required.
Brampton publishes project-specific packages and checklists. Those requirements and the property’s zoning position should be reviewed before upload.
Permit Works can assess requests issued during pre-review or plans examination, revise our architectural documents and coordinate consultant responses where their input is needed.
For a permit already underway, we first review the portal records, existing drawings, outstanding comments and professional responsibilities before confirming the resubmission scope.
