Do Restaurant Renovations Need a Building Permit?

Cosmetic updates may not require a building permit, but restaurant renovations often do when the work changes the kitchen, seating layout, washrooms, exits, accessibility, plumbing, ventilation, fire-safety systems, or occupancy. A change of use review may also be required depending on the previous use.
